Switch expands to bring world-class charging networks to Europe
Following a successful launch in the UK and customer wins in the US, Switch is intensifying its activities in Central Europe.
- A new Germany, Austria and Switzerland (D-A-CH) HQ, built around a nine-person Munich team.
- Mathias Knauer (ex-Total Energies) will lead the business.
- Switch EV GmbH is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Switch EV Ltd.
Munich, 16.01.2024 - A new entity – Switch EV GmbH – has taken over the exclusive distribution of the state-of-the-art Switch Platform in D-A-CH.
Switch EV Ltd has made a name in the industry with two innovative products:
- Josev, the ISO 15118 and OCPP 2.0.1 compliant charge point communication unit.
- The Switch Platform, the cloud-based charge station management system (CSMS) that supports OCPP 2.0.1, OCPP 1.6 and ISO 15118-2 / -20.
Switch is the first vendor worldwide to offer an OCPP 2.0.1 (OCA) and Plug & Charge (Hubject) certified system.
The industry's biggest problems: High operating costs and low technical reliability
With OCPP 2.0.1, High Power Charging (HPC) charge parks can monitor critical hardware components in detail and near real-time.
This enables early fault detection, high uptime and fast problem resolution while minimising service interruptions and operating costs.
For electric car drivers, this means a charging infrastructure that works. For charge point owners, the new technology means lower operating costs and the opportunity to realise new revenue potential from predictive data insights.
Next-generation charging infrastructure for electric vehicles
The Switch Platform can connect and control all chargers that support the currently widespread software version OCPP 1.6. However, the Switch Platform is optimised for the latest software standards.
These include OCPP 2.0.1 for connecting and optimising charging infrastructure in a cloud-based management system (CSMS), and ISO 15118-2 for secure data and power exchange between charger and electric vehicle (including user-convenient Plug & Charge).
Switch already supports ISO 15118-20 for bi-directional AC, DC and Megawatt (MCS) charging, with pantograph and wireless support coming soon.
"I am looking forward to kick-starting the market with Switch, as the widespread adoption of electrified transport has been at a technological impasse for years.
Charging infrastructure needs to be more reliable and profitable, and using the latest technologies like OCPP 2.0.1 is one of the key building blocks." – Mathias Knauer, Managing Director of Switch EV GmbH.
